Amusement parks always bring a feeling of nostalgia to me, especially at night when the lights from the ferris wheel and other rides glow against the night sky, and especially at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver, Colorado, an awesome, old, 1940′s amusement park. In fact, Lakeside is one of the oldest amusement parks in the country.
This panoramic photo captures the thrill of the rides with their lights glowing in against the darkening sky as she sun sets over the Rocky Mountains, reflecting the sunset in the lake that Lakeside is named for, with the 22″ gauge train tracks curving around it all. It’s a beautiful view, and one of my personal favorite panoramas.
I did more digital post-processing on this image than most. I used a similar technique to that used to manually create HDR images (high dynamic range) to get the darkened sky while still keeping some detail in the shadows. I’m very happy with the results. This photograph is part of my Lakeside Amusement Park series, which is unique because unlike most of my other panoramic photos, these were taken in my hometown of Denver, Colorado, not far from The Coolest Little Gallery in fact where it was first shown.
