On a beautiful clear day in September I was visiting Aspen/Snowmass in Colorado and hiking on the ski slopes. I came to a small clearing and couldn’t help looking all around me at the striking aspen trees with their bright yellow leaves stretching high above me towards the blue sky. I wanted to capture the feeling and grandiosity of this natural splendor, and that is what this shot tries to accomplish.
I decided to use the “illustrated poster” effect that I’ve been playing around with recently. I think it goes well with this image, and I particularly like the shading on the white bark of the trees, and the more abstract look of the branches in the undergrowth. You really need to see the image up close to appreciate it, so here are two detail shots. Click on the image to see it larger.
This image is available for purchase at my panoramic art store. I think it would look very nice as a stretched canvas print. Enjoy.
